The monument consists of three main geographic areas: a portion of the Great Staircase, the Kaiparowits Plateau, and the Escalante River Canyon. The area was declared a national monument in 1996. The Monument is a diverse geological treasure with cliffs, plateaus, monoliths, slope canyons, natural bridges and arches. The Monument is an outstanding biological resource that spans five life zones - from lowland desert to coniferous forest. The area is also known for its dinosaur fossil discoveries. In some places of the park, it is even possible to see dinosaur footprints. The area is full of history and geology. The southern area of Grand Staircase-Escalante is home to many hoodoos that are impressive fairy chimneys, especially at White Rocks and Paria Rimrocks. You will also be able to admire very different landscapes, from lunar landscapes such as Nipple Bench with grey cliffs to flamboyantly colored hills at Paria Movie Set. The region has many landscapes with contrasting colors, which makes you feel out of place from one area to another. Northeast of Cottonwood Canyon Road is one of Utah's most beautiful arches. A small, but well-traveled trail leads off Cottonwood Canyon Road to the east. A paved path, 656 feet (200 meters) long, leads to the foot of the arch. Grosvenor Arch is a monumental double arch, measuring 147 feet (45 meters) high, and stands out with its yellow color. Visiting the site is difficult to do in several days, indeed, the most interesting sites are too far away from each other, it is recommended to visit zone by zone and to take time to appreciate, you will not be able to appreciate the visit by wanting to do everything in a few days. Grand Staircase Escalante National Museum is a place to visit at least once in a lifetime, you will be impressed by all its geological singularities and its landscapes as spectacular as each other.
